Don't Believe Their Hype

I just got a call from this company about 20 minutes ago (it's 8:47AM currently). Firstly, they asked if I wanted to apply for a card to help rebuild my credit. My initial response was "yeah, sure, whatever... Eventually", sounding very hesitant. The woman on the other end sounded very cordial by the way, anyhow, so then she asks me to verify my birthday... Then she transfers me to another woman.

She asks for my birthday again and if I have which I did, then if I was over 18 (this question floored me a bit as they had "verified" my birthday... If they knew basic math, they'd know I was WELL over 18). My answer to that question was obviously yes and yes. She then asked which bank I do business with primarily. I told her "B of A".

Now, here's where warning lights went off. Most people know B of A is Bank of America (hence "B of A"). When I gave my response, she seemed puzzled and asked me to repeat the bank name and I responded with the same answer ("B of A")... Three times in fact.

Still puzzled, I figured I'd clarify for the poor, clueless moron on the other end that I was meaning Bank of America (after I clarified, she actually stated "oh, you lost me there for a second, man").

After she asked the standard banking info questions (as most scams do), I think gave her my own line of questioning. I asked what kind of card was it... She told me that would be determined AFTER I gave her my banking info. Then I asked "is it an actual credit card?", she responded with "yes, it is" i asked my final question of what type of card... Visa, mastercard, discover, amex... She stated it was none of those... That it was a line of credit. I told her that I wasn't interested.
She ended the call with "oh, ok. Thanks, bye"

The moral of this story is...
If anyone randomly calls you asking for banking info... Tell them no.
No legitimate company is going to ask for your checking account information in this fashion.
One final thought...
As i was talking to both of these people, i was actually looking up the company name. They DO have a website with a phone number, yet no address. Most LEGITIMATE companies will supply their address. There are special cases to this however... For instance, I personally ran a graphic/web design shop from my house. On my site, I never listed any actual contact info other than an email form. When people responded to me, it was only then that I would give them that info. I called this company back... To get their mailing address. They hung up on me.
