Porfolio Recovery Associates
Trying to collect on debt I don't owe and that is over 13 years old!

I just received a call from Portfolio Recovery Associates just now (9/26/08) at 3:31pm (EST). They claim that I owe a bill from 1995 from Air Mobile. They also said that they are reporting this on my credit report (yes, I have just requested copies of my credit report to verify if this is true!). Anyway, I told her that this was the first time I heard about this debt; that I do NOT owe this debt and that since it was from 1995 it was past the statue of limitations. She asked me how did I know about the statue of limitations and I told her that I just do! Anyway, she claims they can continue reporting this 1995 debt on my credit report until I pay, which I know is illegal. The bottom line is I don't owe this debt and it scares me to think that someone can contact you 13 years later saying you owe a debt. I have lived at this home for the last 5 years and prior to that in my other home for 5 years, so it isn't like I can't be found! I did a "Google" search on this company and they have a bad reputation, which also scares me! I just filed a complaint with the FTC.
