Error impacts and cost me an extra payment

We just received my monthly statement today from Wells Fargo Bank Mortgage (WFBM) whom has handled our home loan since 1999 when we purchased our house. This month's statement reflected that we were late. Since we use on-line banking and to our knowledge have never been late, we went back and checked our monthly statments for the entire year, and found that Jan, 08, July, 08, and this month's statement reflected arrearages. However, we were never charged a late fee. We assumed the late statements were a result of payments crossing in the mail. Calling WFBM, we were told, (after 20 minutes of going back and forth, and finally being transferred to the next step up), that a payment that had been sent to WFBM in November of had inadvertantly been applied to principle only, resulting in our being in the arrears. Our reasoning was that if WFBM made the mistake it would be reasonable for them to reverse that mistake. They (WFBM), said that since the mistate was made last year it could not be reversed. Our next question was could they waive one month's payment to bring us current. Their reply was to refer us to the office where they work with people whom have difficulty paying their bills. At this time, we went ballistic. We had not had difficulty paying our bill, they had problems posting the payments they received. We will NEVER use WFBM again, and will tell all our friends and family.in the great scheme of things, that means nothing!
