I was verifying information on my Credit Report attempting to find the current location of my owed debt so I could begin preparations to make payments and in the end, clear up my bad credit. I was eventually told by Bank of America that National Enterprise Systems had taken up my account. I had been out of contact with debt collectors for some time and much of my debt has been 'written off or charged off as bad debt' on my credit report, but I wanted to do what was right. I visited my grandmother to use her phone for the day. I thought *67 would block her number as I only wanted contact through my cellphone and didn't want people calling to harass her.

At first the conversation with Mr. David McCarthy was polite, I asked for a payoff on the account, current balance and basic information such as who originally owned the debt (I already knew, wanted verification) After getting this information Mr. McCarthy went into a fast doublespeak asking when I would be sending the money, if he could have access to my bank account to make automatic withdrawals and the like. I politely told him I needed to confer with someone else regarding my finances and that I would be in touch within the next week. This apparently angered him as he continued his fast speak in an attempt to confuse me. Offering me a payoff and then moments later, offering a payoff a mere 21 cents less... I told him I would be in touch.

Less than 20 hours later he called again the following morning. I reiterated that I needed to speak with someone who was assisting me with these financial matters, and that if I had the money, he would've already been paid, and we wouldn't be having these conversations. I told him I would be in touch.

Since then my grandmother has told me that he has called almost every day once or twice a day. Except Sundays. I was informed that this afternoon, he called her five times, twice asking for someone other than myself and once screaming into my grandmother's ear, telling her that he would call her every hour on the hour until he spoke with me. He has repeatedly asked for my mother's phone number and anyone else who could reach me.

I still intend on paying my debt. But if he continues to act in this fashion harassing my family daily for my debt, I will not converse with him through anyone other than a lawyer. Another expense yes, but one I'm willing to go through if National Enterprise Systems doesn't cool their heels and teach their employees how to respect those they are speaking with on the phone. My grandmother is not someone to be harassed, yelled at and interrogated over the phone because of bad debt I incurred. She was nice enough to allow me the use of her phone, now I feel bad because she answers his debt collection calls and is screamed at because i'm not there to speak with him.
