Fraudulent Collection Action on old verizon acct

On Jan 29 I received a settlement offer on a non-existing debt from CBCS. This is on a Verizon acct from 2001. CBCS said my balance was $272.07 or I could take advantage of their offer of 60% or $163.24 immediately, otherwise collection actions would continue.

The problem is I had this acct well past 2001 and when I closed it, it had been paid in full. If there had been any unpaid balance Verizon certainly would have reported it on my credit report, they have not, Nor do they have any record of any debt.

I am now being called by these people at CBCS on a regular basis, I have asked them several times to send me proof of the debt, they do not and will not, they just keep repeating excuses and that my acct is now due in full. They try and break you down and get you to just pay them so they'll go away.

My initial feeling when they originally called me was that this was a total scam. After seeing all of these posts I am convinced. I no longer give them any information and I would suggest you refrain from doing so as well.
