Terrible scam, college students given cards w/o no signed contracts and suing people for amounts never charged!

I was given a card while a freshman with a principal of $500 after making steady payments I fell behind.instead of making contact to resolve the problem they sue me and my parents 5years later claiming that my principal was 2000. Who gives a college student that big of a balance without a job, impossible?! My parents are now faced with this and I never even signed anything or recieved any contract stating the 'rules' for parents of ADULT college students. They have terrible customer service and now I dont know who to contact.
