Washington Mutual
RAISES APR For NO Reason To GOOD Customer! Excessivley raised ap

Business & Finance

I have been a customer with Providian for 5 years or so now with a Pay Pal card. It was one of my first credit cards and I was always responsible with it. I used the card to pay for things for college-book, gas, other supplies. When tuition at school was raised and my loans no longer covered all charges, I used the card to pay the remained of my bill (that only happened 2 semesters and one full summer session for one class.) I have ALWAYS paid on time-yes, even as a college student I was very responsible with my card.

Now since WAMU has taken over, I have had my credit limit lowered, dealt with worse customer service and now my APR has just been raised an insane amount! My card is maxed out at the moments, but I was paying off furniture and stuff for my new place. I have all my other credit cards under control-and still pay more than the minimum due each month. I am furious with what they have done.

I logged in to my account the other day and saw my min due was $99 that month, I paid $125-normally I would have paid more, but I just paid off 2 cards with high balances this month so $125 was good for me. I checked the transactions section online and saw that for this month my finance charges were $92! How do they ever expect me to get that balance down and want to actually stay with a company like them if monthly they say i need to pay $99 but they are going to charge me $92-so that only $7 goes towards my balance!? That is absurd if you ask me!

I have contacted them about this and was told that in Nov they sent me notice that this would happen and that if I didn't agree to it I would have needed to pay my balance off in full and close the account! 1. I never received that notice-I have heard other people say it was on the bill in tiny print so maybe I over looked it since I do all my bills online and just didn't read it completely. 2. IF they did send that notice, why didn't I also receive a privacy notice and all that mumbo jumbo that usually comes with it when any other company does this sort of thing? 3. Since they send me emails all the time, why didn't they send notice of this that way as well?

No one at wamu can give me a GOOD CLEAR answer to anything I want to know just that I can close my account. To me it sounds like they are just trying to P! Ss everyone off by doing this. I have NEVER had a late or missed payment with them, I have NEVER gone over my limit with them, I have even recommended them to friends when buying a house or looking for a credit card-I trusted them and felt secure using their card. NOT ANYMORE!

I have already looking for other options to pay off the money I owe them and close that account. I don't think its fair that I feel I am getting robbed for being a good customer for such a long time-and I'll be sure to complain to them more before closing my account. But who do I write to to see that this is stopped? I've never had any trouble like this with other companies before. I guess maybe the BBB-we'll see if that gets us anywhere!
