The addition of extra fees and penalties

I have had my 2nd mortgage on my auto bill payer from my bank for over 5 years.in April, they changed the address and account number of my account and failed to notify me. The only way that I saw that it was different was the address on the payment stub. Because it is payed automatically by the bank, I didn't look at the address when the statements came in.

I did notice that they had not received the payment for January and February, even though my bill payer payment history said that the checks were sent and processed. They had not cleared the bank, so I knew that they had not been paid. They had been cashing the checks sent to the old address and account number since April until December when they suddenly stopped accepting payment. They gave me no notice that there was a problem even though they had an email address for me.

Their response was that I should have noticed that the address had been changed. My situation is that I travel 25 days a month and I had just returned from over 26 days on the road and just happened to see that there was a problem. They had added the late fee, and because the web site was down, I was unable to pay online, so they charged me an additional $12.00 for the telephone payment process.

The people were rude and continued to talk over me as I was trying to explain what had happened. I was forced to use the telephone payment process because otherwise the payment would have been over 30 days late and it would have been reported to the credit bureaus.
