The Assurance Group
The assurance group ripoff: they recruit by lies and deception and provide you nothing!

Business & Finance

I joined this company after being recruited by a "manager" named Jim Beck, who drove up to PA from North Carolina to recruit agents. Jim claimed this company had a cookie cutter system that, if followed, created very successful agents. I found out FAST what a lie that was!

Despite their claims about their "lead program", TAG did not provide a SINGLE LEAD for almost 3 months. We were told the reason why was because they marketed heavily in PA a year back and there were no agents at that time to work them, sop they expected the new agents to work them, AND PAY FULL PRICE. During that time, Jim, Pennie Sterner (the former PA "Director" who was send rambling emails almost on a daily basis asking agents why nobody was working the year old leads), and they agent they claimed was making over $6,000/week, all left the company. Then a new director (who'll remain nameless for now) comes in with more promises and lies (If you're reading this, you KNOW what they are!) All we kept hearing the entire time was "changes are coming". Yeah, right!

I understand things dont work out, that's fine. I also have a business where I earn my primary income, which is why I waited as long as I did for the "changes". The fact this company did not provide anything they promised is not the worst of it. The problem is, when people realize they are going nowhere with this company and want to seek opportunities elsewhere, they will not release you from your contract! So not only are people not making any money with TAG, but they're trapped for SIX MONTHS on top of it! (Thankfully for me, my six months is almost up).

If you are with TAG right now, and are trying to get out, read your contract. It clearly states that either party can terminate at any time as long as you make the request in writing. Send it, either by postal service, or be email (like I did) and get a return receipt. If Shackelford doesnt release you, report him to the insurance commission. Maybe if enough people do that, he might stop pulling this crap on people. Mr. Shackelford, people are out there trying to make a living and feed their families. If you can't provide the system you and your managers promised, who the hell gave you the right to prevent someone from making a living elsewhere?

If you're not with TAG and are considering this (or any other opportunity out there), DO NOT allow yourself to be locked in to a "captive agent" contract. If you do, you will find yourself just another frustrated victim posted your nightmare right here on this site like I am.
