We began our shopping event on three separate occasions with the intent to complete our purchases and expedite our departure as quickly as possible. On those occasions, we went through the check-out line only to recieve a little slip of paper that declined our ability to use our checking account funds to complete our purchases.

Occasion Number One: We called the number we were given and were told that Telecheck did not have our telephone number and therefore was declining our check. I gave them the information, the check was approved, and we went on our merry way. I was still pleasant with this episode.

Occasion Number Two: Again little slip of paper, Telecheck representative shares that nothing is wrong with our account, we have had no bad checks, but they are protecting us from ourselves and the potential that we might be a risk to our checking account. She promptly places me on a three way call with my bank representative to ensure that there are funds in our account to cover our check and again I give her the appropriate information, the check is approved, and we complete our purchase. My husband and I are now embarassed and furious that we have been publically humiliated at the policies and procedures of Telecheck and the fact that Wal-Mart disrespects the American public by partnering with a company who treats people like criminals. I understand that writing a bad check carries a criminal charge and therefore don't engage in the practice. There is an alternative recourse without criminalizing everyone for some people's negative behavior.

Occasion Number Three: All of our episodes occurred within a week period of time, and by this time, we are really trying to give Wal-Mart and Telecheck the benefit of the doubt. To our dismay, third times charm, yet again, another little slip of paper, another phone call, same response. The Telecheck representative shares we have no problem with our account, no bad checks, no outstanding issues, but they are still trying to protect us from ourselves. After a rather heated discussion with my husband, the check was approved. We discussed with Toshua, the store's manager that we were very unhappy about the process and would choose not to partake of another shopping experience with Wal-Mart because of their poor choice of a relationship with Telecheck. I will not willingly be humiliated and embarrased when I am doing the right thing.

How long is it going to take before they not only decide whether I can spend my money but also what I spend my money on? It feels uncanningly like scripture in Revelation regarding how another being will decide my fate.
