Withholding funds from merchant

IPayment not only withheld funds from us for services we provided, but they also decided to alter the contract we signed with their representative without ever notifying us of any change.

IPayment implemented what they called a "customer maximum" and lowered the average amounts that were on the contract we had signed. We have never had a customer dispute any charge to a card, so this came as quite a surprise. We build custom cars for people all over the United States and Canada and many of our customers find it convenient to pay their bills by credit card.

This particular customer was contacted by IPayment and he told them that the charges were authorized by him, but they still held on to his $5000.00 payment. After 2 weeks of waiting, the gentleman issued us a check in order to pay his bill and we issued him a credit via the card processing machine.

IPayment walked us through this maneuver and assured us that since we had never received the original payment of $5000. That it would simply credit the customer's account. On the next business day I received a call from IPayment saying that they "accidently" took $5000. From our checking account even though they still had never processed the original payment from more than 2 weeks earlier! In other words - they now had a total of $10,000.

I found their employees very unprofessional and rude in trying to work with them. They refused to return calls when I would ask for a supervisor and treated our customer as if he had done something wrong. I changed our card processing company immediately, but I'd love to know who was benefitting from that money for 2 weeks. Perhaps that is why they do business under so many names!!!
