Business & Finance

I have read all 10 reports and wonder why there are no rebuttals? That tells me that the posters are honest in their postings, just as I will state the facts in mine.

When I first met Mr. Murphy at American Home Mortgage, he was very accommodating to me and returned my calls right away and even met up with me to help me get my credit report in order. He was very helpful to me at first. As closing day got closer and closer, he was suddenly not returning my calls and had a family member's surgery scheduled and did not even tell me that he would not be available to me near closing date. I made an offer on a property on April 23rd and they accepted and escrow was supposed to close on May 23rd. So I gave my notice to move out on May 25th. As the time got closer, he kept telling me that the loan company had not yet given my loan docs to escrow. I had planned to take off 6 days of work in order to move and unpack and 3 of those days were the Memorial Day holiday. I was informed on May 24th that I would not be moving after all so I had to scramble to get my landlord to let me stay another week and call all the services (cable, electricity, etc.) to cancel my cancellation calls for another week so I didn't sit over the long holiday weekend w/o these services.

The first day after the holiday, I called Mr. Murphy and his voice mail said his wife was having surgery and he was unavailable! Talk about panic and stress!!! He eventually returned my frantic calls and emails and I was totally shocked that he had not informed me he would be unavailable as surgeries are planned months in advance and he had known for a long time that he would not be available.

He kept blaming the loan company (Aurora) as the reason why loan docs were not being sent to escrow company. He told me he was following up every hour on the hour but he never went above that person's head who was supposedly not doing his job!!! He appeared to care about the daily delays but never actually did anything about it until I jumped on his case on the 30th.

My landlord told me I had to be out on the last day of May the 31st. I was informed by Mr. Murphy that I would indeed be finally signing docs on May 30th. So I left the office early to find the escrow company as it was in a neighborhood I was unfamiliar with. That was a total waste of time and I went home. At 6:30 pm that evening, I got a call from my realtor (who wound up stepping up at many crucial times for me when Mr. Murphy would not) and he said I could go down and sign the loan docs that evening. Thank goodness the kid at escrow was willing to stay late and wait for me. I finished signing loan docs at 8:15 that night! The next day the movers were coming at 8 AM and had I not signed those documents the night before, I would have been in a real jam! As I initialed each page, I had a sick feeling in my stomach as I know better than to sign documents I have not yet read. But I was put between a rock and a hard place with no where to go!

So docs are signed, I've moved in and finally get a chance to read over the documents put in front of me at the 11th hour. Upon seeing the documents, I had a lot of questions about them and Mr. Murphy was either very vague in his responses or told me to contact my agent, seller's agent, or the escrow company. He had very few answers for me.

He used Central Escrow as the escrow company and they chalked up another $2,200 in fees that they wanted at closing. Mr. Murphy magically made those disappear, than goodness, but so did my $2,000 Deposit which went for impounding taxes. He never disclosed those to me until I asked about it after the docs were signed. The notary who signed my documents wasn't even in the building at the time of loan signing and they're not supposed to charge more than $150 for loan signing. They charged me $200 and when I asked what the extra $50 was for, I was told for signing after hours. Well, who's fault was that!!!??? The notary, Mark Lopez, who got my $200 wasn't even in the building. I will be contacting the Secretary of State to let them know of his notary misconduct and he will lose his notaryship.

Richard Murphy never told me that 7 months of property taxes would be impounded and that's what happened to the majority of my deposit. Where the rest of it went, I have no idea, probably in his pocket. He made about $4,000 of this deal and has the nerve to contact my agent and seller's agent to schmooze them with a free lunch and more business. I informed them about how unhappy I was with him and his service and if they use him for any more deals, those people will probably have the same service I was given.

I have an investment property in another state and told Mr. Murphy from day one that either this year or next, that property would be sold and I would be using those funds to pay off the 2nd mortgage on my new loan. Of course, there's a 3-year pre-payment penalty on my loan! I too was told it would be a certain interest rate on the Good Faith Estimate and of course it changed on the day or two before I was to sign the documents.

This guy really knows how to get people in a position of not being able to back out! And to this day he claims all of his emails were quite specificand he's sorry I'm so upset! He fails to follow up with escrow to get back an additional $210 he says they still owe me. I only got back $70 from my $2,000 and according to him, I should have gotten back $277 and he said he would follow up with escrow. To this day I still have no idea what is going on with that money.

Every email from him just makes my blood boil as it'll be either vague or he'll tell me to check with someone else. He just doesn't care or is lazy or both. Buyers beware! Do not deal with Mr. Murphy or AHM! Below is his contact information. Give it to your enemies and put them through mortgage h*l!
