Debt Collection Fraud ripoff

I just received a letter from Wyse Financial Services, Inc., also referenced in the letter as NCO Portfolio Management. They claim that a creditor (Sears) has placed a claim against me with their office.

First I checked my credit report on Experian - no problems there. After Googling the name as well as phone number, it led me to this site and I read some bad reports about Wyse/NCO Portfolio Management (one of them referencing a Sears account).

So I called the 24-hr customer services # on the back of my Sears card. It confirmed that, other than a recent large purchase I made, there were no other outstanding balances.

I spoke with a Sears customer service rep (despite the fact that the letter from Wyse states NOT to contact the creditor). I had her check my account and she said everything looks fine - there are no unpaid balances, pending collections, nor marks against me.

She also said that Sears does NOT go to outside collection agencies - they have their own internal one. She asked me to mail or fax them a copy of the letter from Wyse so they can look into the matter, which I will do tomorrow. I will also request that Sears sends me a letter with their feedback on this letter, as well as a statement that my account is in good standing (in case Wyse tries to pursue anything).

If you have also received a bogus letter like this, I suggest you call the creditor directly and discuss w/them. Mail or fax them a copy of your letter.

As per feedback for the other reports I read, I may also send Wyse a letter disputing their claim (I certainly will not be sending them any money). And as recommended, I will not include any data that is not included in the letter I received. This may just be a phishing expedition on their part to get my personal info. If I receive a letter from Sears in time I will send that to Wyse as well.
