Rate Raised to 20.375 Percent After One Late Payment

I have had my rate raised from 9.9 after 8 years to 20.375% for one late payment. I have tried to get it lowered and they will not. I cannot afford to keep paying this card at its current balance and interest rate, I want to settle but they will not let me. I can do it through a third party, why not on my own? I have filed complaints with the FTC and the BBB and my state attorney general. I want out of this debt, which is what they made it. I cannot afford to pay them what I owe b/c of the interest rate they raised it to. Can someone explain why they will accept an offer from a third party to take 50% or more of the balance as a settlement, but they will not take it from me? I hope there is a suit. After 8 years, never late once until 2 months ago and they have screwed me. They will not lower the rate or settle with me. Something has to be done, I cannot be the only one in this situation
