Sent Nasty Lette

I received my nasty letter threating "Criminal/Civil Action Pending" over a supposed dishonored check. They even went so far as to imply that they may issue a warrant for my arrest.

Two years ago, I sent a certified-return receipt letter to them requesting proof of debt by sending me a copy of this check within 30 days, which is a consumer's right by the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA). Needless to say, I never heard back from them... Probably because such a check doesn't exist.

The named merchant is a popular one w / high traffic in a city I haven't lived in for 4-5 yrs. After reading other reports on this site, I think this is their plan of attack. I believe they are banking on people panicking over a smurch on their credit. Plus, no one wants to be threatened w / a warrant!

I've already written a letter and am awaiting their reply, certified/return receipt of course. Oh, and after doing a little more research in this website (which is a great resource, BTW), I also included a "Do Not Communicate w / Me Other Than By Written Means Sent to me By Mail" clause.
