Returned check and charges late fee

My web bill pay service has sent them three checks so far, which they accepted. The last payment was just sent to them and they mailed the check back to me saying it should be made out to "Bill Me Later". The previous three checks were made out the exact same way (payable to "BUY.com PREFERRED ACCOUNT").
So I call them to find out why. Service rep says they should have accepted the check. Oh by the way I found out (from their automated account info, not from the rep) that I have a $10 minimum payment due today. So I ask the rep what happens when they don't get that money (cuz it's due today). Oh, you'll see a late fee, of course. I tell her that will make me very angry, since they sent their check back to me. "I'll make a note on your account". Which I doubt will make any damn difference.
I am upset that they force me to straighten this out. I will not do any business with a merchant who uses this service in the future!
