Yet another shady collection agency trying to collect on a settled debt

So why is it when ones credit gets to a AAA level, that the roaches start crawling out of the woodwork to try and collect on debt that was settled or paid? I received a letter starting with the words "WE ARE YOUR NEW CREDITOR". These guys are so nice to offer me a settlement on a debt that has been settled since 2000.

They are so nice to cut the amount from $1400 to a mere $500, the actual limit of the now bankrupt Montgomery Ward account I had back in 1992. My question is, how do I fight this? I know the statute of limitations has expired and I am not trying to pay these thieves a dime as I already paid Montgomery Ward once as it is.
