Melaleuca
Overstated, over rated and you just can't get out of it

Business & Finance

I have read so many reports about Melaleuca and there are two common themes.

1. The company was overstated when consumers first signed up.

And

2. Quitting the company is a hard process.

Let me tell you. I was pressured to attend to a meeting on Oct. 31 of 2005. The fact that I had to go to the funeral for my aunt made no difference to the "representative". At the meeting, Melaleuca was highly overstated. This company could move the heavens and the earth. The rep was so confident in my abilities that he was going to "pay" for my first month out of his own pocket because I was about to retire and the money he put out was nothing in comparison. The retention rate of consumers in the company was amazing also. Of course all this was overstated immensely. The whole layout of the company was misrepresented, but I had nothing to lose. This guy was paying my way in, all I had to do was have a serious look at it.

It didn't take long before I decided that Melaleuca was indeed a joke compared to the elaborate story of riches. I decided to quit. That's when the trouble really started.

I phoned in may to cancel my membership. I was told to send a letter. So I did. The start of June I found a backup order at my door and a charge to my credit from Melaleuca. I phoned the company and they stated that the letter must arrive before the 25th of any month. Of course my letter had not arrived in time.

July, I got another backup order and another charge on my credit card. I phone Melaleuca and after some time on the phone I was told that no letter had arrived and the charge was going through, like it or not. I mailed another letter and informed my credit card company of the fraudulent activity.

The start of August another package arrived. Another charge on my credit card. I phoned Melaleuca, who insisted that no letter arrived. I phoned my credit card company and they stated that Melaleuca could indeed charge to my account and that I had no recourse. I could file a dispute but the original contract I signed with Melaleuca would take presidence. So I sent TWO letters to Melaleuca canceling my membership.

On Sept 6, I checked my credit card because of Melaleuca. There was yet another charge. I phone Melaleuca and spent at least two hours being passed around and was told there were no letters from me. I phoned my credit card company again and was told that I could file a dispute but ONLY after the charge was actually posted to my account. The entire day was spent dealing with a nonresponsive Melaleuca and an uncaring credit card company. I mailed two more letters on the 6 of sept and another two on the 7th. This time infront of witnesses.

Today is the 26th and I phoned Melaleuca to make sure that no further charges would be added. They again stated that no letter was recieved. They again stated that they are charging my account. I phoned my credit card company. Again I can complain but only after the charges go through. I am two weeks ahead of the charges and I still can't seem to stop the maddness.

I heard stories of Melaleuca tying people up in court for whatever reason, well try me. I will hit the media, givernment and anyone else who will listen. Joining this pyrmid was easy, getting anything out of it was a joke. Just getting out of it is stress. Maybe I will be the one to sue. Any lawyers out there that want a class action.

MIsrepresentation is agaisnt the law. If Melaleuca pretended to not get a cancelation for even one month from everyone who tried to quit, the bottom line would amount to millions of dollars in forced sales. I'll bet that I'm raising so much of a stink that all of a sudden Melaleuca will get one of my cancellation letters. Forced sales... What a concept.
