Recently I applied to refinancing my condo at the lendingtree.com and minutes later I received an e-mail with an offer and the name of the person which was going to help me on the refinancing process.

This person called me with an offer and asked how much was the value of my condo right now, I told him that I didn't now, he said that was not a problem and he was going to find out, after few minutes he said that my condo value was over $50,000 the amount I owe on my mortgage and he was going to help me refinancing with no problems.

I faxed him some information that he requested and he called me back with a rate offer, and as soon I said I was interested in refinancing he asked me for $400 to lock the rate and also motioned that this $400 was refundable in case he could not refinance my mortgage
I trusted him and gave my credit card information, he sent someone to do the condo appraisal, for my surprise the appraisal was done in less than 5 minutes, and after 2 days he sent me this e-mail:

I was out of the office yesterday and have been waiting on your appraisal to come in. This morning we got your appraisal, it came back with a value of $230,000. You currently owe $237,000 on your home. I do not have any other options but to close your file. I will be forwarding you a copy of the appraisal report we got for you to keep and review. If you have any further questions feel free to contact me, Thanks

I contacted him and asked him about my $400, for my surprise he said that was not refundable and haven't heard from him ever since, I felt robbed and filed a credit card dispute.
