Last summer I cashed a babysitting check for my kid for $18.75. The teller forgot the decimal point and consequently, $1875.00 was held against my accout, unknown to me for a few days. I bounced about 10 checks! 5/3 reversed the fees, but I still had to drive all over town clearing up the mess. Telecheck put a hold for 3 months on all of my checks (since 3 were for the same store) and even though they had bank confirmation, there was nothing they could do until they got the original check back, which took forever since they bounced and the stores held on to them for awhile.
Meanwhile, my poor neighbor who had written the $18.75 check was on vacation and this check was keyed in for $1875.00 electronically. All of her vacation money disappeared from her account and she had to come back home!
What did we "get" from 5/3 for our trouble? NOTHING.
In the meantime, I think I have beaten everyone on the fees... in the last month, because of a stupid mistake on my part, 5/3 charged me $1350.00 in fees!!!
I love how they can make a mistake, ruin my (and my neighbor's) summer, and yet when I make a mistake, I get severely punished.
