Fraudulent debt collection effort ripoff

In the summer of 1995 and early 1996, I went through a lot of letters and phone calls with Household Bank over a VISA credit card account fraudulently set up in my name that was holding up my ability to get a mortgage for a condo that I was buying in New Jersey.

Finally, in early 1996, I managed to convince Household that I was a victim of identity theft and they charged off the account. Well, lo, and behold, here comes Palisades Collection late last month with a 40 percent discount opportunity for me to pay them the $1,568 I supposedly owe them. I've already filed a complaint with the New Jersey attorney general's office on them.

Just wanted to know if there were other fraudulent debt collection efforts out there by Palisdades and why hasn't any governmental agency been able to put them out of business if that's the case?
