Stole $575 from my wife and i! Ripoff!

As a short term fix to a money crunch we were in, my wife went into the Alexandria, VA location of Advance America to borrow $500.

The problem began when an employee of Advance America inputted incorrect information into her computer. She set the loan due date as 1/21 when it was supposed to be 1/31. I noticed the problem when I looked at the paperwork my wife brought home. At my direction, she called them and they said the would hold the check until 1/31.

On Friday, January 27 I withdrew $575 from our checking account in order to pay the loan off. Because of Northern Virgina traffic among other fallacies, we were unable to get to the store until Monday, January 30. No problem, we thought. The loan was not due to paid off until January 31.

My wife entered Advance America on Monday afternoon in order to pay off the loan. After taking our hard earned money, the employee handed my wife a letter and informed her the check had been depostited at the bank on Saturday, January 28. She then refused to give my wife her money back saying that she "needed to keep it in case the check comes back bad."

Well; duh, you idiot... You have in your drawer the money that is to cover that check. She then went on to tell my wife that she can come in for a refund when the check clears. This particular employee was not helpful or understanding of the situation at all.in fact, she was downright rude.

In my eyes it's very clear that the type of people that need to use a payday advance in the first place are not going to be the type of people that have an extra $575 of dispoable money sitting around. So, instead of just giving my wife back her money to put in our account to cover the check, they chose to play this game. Yes folks, that what it is to them, a GAME.

Today (Tuesday) the manager was conveniently sick. All I got on the phone was that moron of an employee who took the money from my wife and probably doesn't know her ass from a hole in the ground and the "assistant manager." The assistant manager was nicer and more understanding of the issue, but still offered no help. I have to speak with Joyce, the manager.

Do not do business with this company. They are nothing more than glorified loan sharks. If you can help it, do not use any payday advance company at all. The interest is exorbitant and they will just put you into more of a financial crunch.
