Received demand for pmt on old debt ripoff

I received a "Demand for Payment" from this company. It stated that if full payment was not received by them within 30 days (I received the letter 2 weeks prior to the deadline) they would report this to the credit bureaus.

They did report this, as I discovered while obtaining an auto loan, had to pay higher than normal rate.
How do I clear this up. Anyone???
