Ripoff

I have received a letter from "palisades" claiming that my account falls within the "7-year reporting period", and that my account will be reported to various credit bureaus, if I don't make the payment sum of $17561.95. I spoke with a lady ms katsy whose name number is included above, stating that this account was settled on may 14th of and that my debt was consolidated and paid on intervals of four months starting from February 14th of 2002 until may 14th of each in the sum of $2,144.00. The person overseeing the account settlement was M. Shaffer (301) 620-3556 all over 4 yrs ago. And she wanted me to fax her all this information, I have done a little research on line and found a whole bunch of you who are having problems with this company and so I decided to write a report with the federal trade commission. Figured if I faxed her old checks etc she would probably get my account number and rob my money. I couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing. What credit card turns you to a collection agency four years after consolidation and payment?

I am appalled at the practices of this company, yet truly grateful to see so many of you reporting them. My only advise is hang on to old records even if it is almost half a decade old because you just never know when someone will get their hands on your social and do something unspeakable. I also wish to know how one can protect themselves against identity theft as it is frightening anyone can get their hands on your social security number. I urge everyone who is reading this to file a complaint with the credit bureaus and the federal trade commission about the integrity or lack thereof of this palisades collection, L.L.C
