Repeated harassing phone calls for non-existent person Ripoff

For the past two months Asset Acceptance has been calling my phone number and asking for Veronica. I don't know who Veronica is. I've had this phone number for the past five years.

Tonight one of their agents called. I explained politely that no-one named Veronica lives here. He didn't believe me. I explained that my name is Genevieve. He wanted me to pass a message to Veronica. I explained that Veronica does not exist. The agent didn't believe me.

I demanded a name. He didn't want to give me one. I demanded a name again. Finally the agent said "Asset Acceptance." I asked if it was a collection agency: the agent didn't want to answer.

I repeated that he had the wrong phone number. He told me that when they entered the name "Veronica (last name)" in the Seattle phone book my name came up. I pointed out that the name in the phone book is Genevieve, not Veronica, and that they system was probably picking up on the fact that I have two "v"s in my name. He told me that was a funny coincidence.

I asked him to stop calling me. He repeated the request that I pass a message to Veronica. I reiterated that I don't know any Veronica. He said, again, my name and phone number came up when they searched the phone book for Veronica. I pulled out the Seattle phone book and read him every entry for the last name in question. I pointed out that there were no Veronicas listed. The agent reiterated that the search turned up my name and phone number.

I asked to speak to a supervisor. The agent refused. He told me to terminate the call. I asked why I needed to terminate the call when he was the one who called me. He told me again to terminate the call. I refused and demanded to speak to his supervisor. He refused and put me on hold. He took me off hold after about thirty seconds and demanded that I terminate the call. I refused. He put me back on hold. I left the phone off the hook and walked away. After roughly two minutes he terminated the call at his end.

I have called this agency more than once to explain that they have the wrong number. I'm not Veronica. They won't listen, they won't stop calling, and after tonight's exchange I won't be at all surprised if they start calling more frequently.

Asset Acceptance, based on my experiences in dealing with them, is run by a group of rude, sloppy, unprofessional idiots who are incapable of so much as checking the name of the person they want to reach.
