Ripoff I have never heard of either of these places and out of the blue I am suposed to owe $2,245.34 but if I pay right away they will allow

I have never heard of either of these two places before.
Out of the blue they are telling me that I owe them $2,245.34 but if I pay by 08/28/05 I will only have to pay $1,122.67.

This is a settelment offer. No explanation of what it is for or when it was or how much the perchase was for.
This sounds like they are trying to rip me off.
How did they get my name and home address?
What to do?
