Ripoff, misled to believe I didn't need to make a payment until the 90 day limbo from servicing date was over?

I was recently informed by mail that my mortgage was serviced from Fremont Investment & Loan, to America's Servicing Company, "ACS". This took place on December 16th. I was behind by 2 payments. I had borrowed the money from family and saved all I could to make the January and catch up the Nov. Dec. Also. Until I recieved a phone call from "ACS" to remind me that I needed to send my payments to them now, and asked if I Knew that I was behind 2 months? I said, "Yea I know this, and would have 2 payments on the 15th of Jan. And the remaining balance to pay on the 25th of Jan. I explained why I got behind and tried to explain that I was making every effort to catch up. So they would hopfully make note that I was trying, just incase they thought I was avoiding payment.

Then the Gentlement I was talking to said, "oh", did you know that by law, you don't have to actually send any payments until the 90 day limbo from when servicing started? In this interum they can't charge the customer any payments or late fee's, nor could they make a report to the credit bureau's. So on February 16 I only had to make that single payment and no late charges or negative remarks on my credit report. WoW! I was so relieved to hear that and thought how it was a miracle, and wondered why I hadn't heard that before? I wasn't so bad off after all. But as January cruised by and February came closer I recieved the January Monthly mortgage statement, and it says payment after the 16th would be 3 times what I normally pay plus late charges, Additional Principal, Additional Escrow, and Other charges. And they sent two men to my house and asked my roomate's / renters, who lived there, and wanted to speak with me, but I wasn't home? Now they leave messages every other day that say I need to contact them about payments urgently. I was pretty confused and thought maybe the statements were just automatic or somthing buy really weren't pertenant or somthing?
