Harrassment - I'm scared of ID theft

I have not YET been ripped off by this company - Ocwin - to my knowledge, but I after at least a month of harrassment from them & reading all of the related reports on your website, I am increasingly concerned of what could be going on and am hoping to receive some feedback from the rest of you to fill in the blanks & protect myself from any wrongdoing.

I started receiving phone calls from this company to my cell phone (which is also my "home phone" as I don't have a land line) 1-2 times EVERY DAY. They would call while I was at work & leave no messages so I had no idea what this long distance number was showing up on my phone every single day.

Finally, I got so fed up w/these calls that I decided to call them back. I learned that the name of the company was ocwen - something I had never heard of, that they were some sort of credit company - and that they aparantly "do not have my number on file, so I shouldn't be getting any calls." I was curious as to why this company would be calling me in the first place as I have credit credit, I don't have any debt & and have never used any credit companies in the past for any reason.

I chalked it up to a typo in their system and left it alone. But I kept getting the calls, day after day after day at least once all every day w/no message or anything. I called back & they gave me other numbers to call neither of which got me anywhere. I tried searching for the company online but I never guessed the correct spelling. Then I searched the phone numbers & saw all of the reports on this website.

First of all, I was shocked that I am receiving these calls as I do not have a mortgage. I do not even have a house or anywhere close to it. I am a 25-yr old, low-income, apartment renter & have never applied for any loans or anything of the sort.

The next thing that worries me is the mention on other posts between Ocwen & GMAC and also between Ocwen & credit companies Experian & Transunion. First of all GMAC - now as I said I have never been in the market for a home, but I do use GMAC as my car insurance company and have problems with them in the past - so this immediatly caught my attention.

In regards to credit companies, this also concerned me for a couple of reasons. First, there was a database either lost or stolen last year from the university I went to (I was still a student at the time) and received notice that my personal information was on it. Secondly, because of this, I have been watching my credit reports and have noticed a couple of companies that have been looking at it that I am unfamiliar with which also makes me raise an eyebrow to this.

That plus the fact that noone over at the company seems to know how or why I could be getting these "mysterious" phone calls EVERY DAY makes me very suspicious that they are attempting something, but I don't know that they could do much. Especially by trying to call me on the phone each day? I'm not sure what is going on but after reading all of the reports you could see why I'd be concerned.
