Florida Assumed Name Services
Scam

Business & Finance

Today, 6/22, I received an official looking "time sensitive document" envevelop containing a business mail stamp, an Eagle and "United States Mail" stamped/printed on it with red ink. There is not a post mark stamp.

The envelope also says to open immediately and has a 1700 North Monroe Street, Tallahassee return address on it.

Inside are 2 forms...
2016 ficticous name instruction forms
The notice date at the very top and very bottom (for office use only) of the first page is 6/20.

The first form starts by saying that state records indicate that your fictitious name ________ is due for renewal in 2016. Please respond by 7/15.

"FLORIDA ASSUMED NAME SERVICES IS NOT A GOVERNMENT AGENCY AND DOES NOT NAVE A CONTRACT WITH ANY GOVERNMENT AGENCY TO PROVIDE THIS SERVICE."

It then goes on to asks you to validate all of the information, which is all correct by the way (name, address, registration date, registration number, Ficticous name) and then has instructions on how to make changes to any of the information they have, if it is inaccurate.

For block 8 it says that "this renewal must be signed in Block 8 with an original signature by at least one owner that is listed in Block 6 or Block 7" (this pertains to a signature oath).

It then informs you to send your $125 check or money order to their address, or you can provide your credit card information.

I was almost tricked into sending the requested $125 immediately. According to sunbiz.org, my renewal isn't due until 12/31 and the cost is only $50.
