Jefferson Capital Aka Compucredit fradulent credit reporting agency

I pull my credit report every year to check it to make sure all is well. I have found that jefferson capital has entered fradulent information on to my credit file for an account that I have never had.

Back in 2003 there was an entry on my account from plaza associates. That was an collection agency that fingerhut sold the account to that they insisted belonged to me. After disputing the information with the CRA and having plaza associates investigate the issue also it was removed from my report because fingerhut could not provide documentation that showed I owned the account.

Well low and behold here we are in 2005 and jefferson capital magically appeared on my credit file for the same account I again disputed it with the credit bureau. I also contacted jefferson via mail, and telephone to advise them of my dispute. Jefferson advised that they would respond to my inquiriy with 7-10 business days.

I waited 15 dyas and called back that is when jefferson advised that they had sold the account to RJM aquisitions. So I contacted rjm to advise them of the dispute and accusation of fraud. I spoke to a representaive who requested that I forward to him in writing my dipsute as well as all the letters and correspondence I had for the account.

Luckily for me I keep excellent records whether it be phone calls or letters, I faxed all of the information he requested. He advised me that jefferson capital was NOT suppose to sell the account KNOWING full well that it was in dispute. According to consumer law which I recived from the credit bureau when ever you have notified a creditor that the item is in dispute they may not report it to the bureau until investigation is complete, I also forwarded a copy of the laws to the RJM rep.

I spoke to him again this morning and he asvised me that his company has sent the collection back to jefferson capital and that RJM will not be reporting it to my credit file. I also spoke to equifax credit bureau, and was advised that I need to get a police report from my local police dept. And they will contact the police where jefferson is located and have them investigate by subpeona, so that they can pull Jefferson's records.

Once I receive my police report I was told to forward by mail or fax along with a copy of my credit report to show the entry to the credit bureau and they will take the account off. I also placed a fraud alert on my file against fingerhut aka jefferson capital aka rjm (just in case) aka compucredit that way they can not file anything against my credit file.

I'm still working on my case so as soon as I am done I will let you guys know how it turns out. Good luck and make sure you guys check your reports regularly every six months at least.
