Having been an owner of 5 policies with JC Penneys Life Insurance, which converted to Stonebridge Life for over 30 years, I am dismayed at the recent treatment I received. Last December I was notified I had a overpayment on one policy and that the payment for the following month would be a lessor amount. Fine, paid it. Since I pay my bills by billpay from my bank, when I paid my premium the following month, the lessor $ amount came up, I paid it, didn't even register that it wasn't the right amount. Next month did the same, then it hit me, something was wrong, I did my research and found my error and immediately issued a check in the correct amount. When I checked my policy online, it showed "Lapsed" so I called, the first of 6 phone calls to try to recitify the problem. I was told that I would be reinstated, they would send paperwork. 2 weeks later I received a letter stating I had past the reinstatement period of 10 years from the purchase of the policy and therefore couldn't be reinstated. I called again, what about the 30 years of me being a client, I made an honest mistake, tried to correct it, I was sent a refund check for 2 months of short payments and then 1 months of my regular payment. I asked why I was not notified, sent a letter stating I was in danger of loosing my policy, or hey, simply pick up the phone and ask me what the problem was and explain the situation to me. Today again, I called and was told so sorry, nothing we can do, we can sell you a different policy though. What? Where is my confidence with this company I have had for over 30 years when they will not, call me back as stated they would, and also, being understanding of my error, let me make up the back payments and continue my coverage with them. I am so disappointed with Stonebridge Life. Another big business, took my money for 30 years, but missed full payment for 2 months and I'm out.
