"Darren Williams" "You could really use the money." Ripoff scam

On 11/26/04, my husband answered the phone. He was a bit suspicious when an Indian-sounding foreigner wanted to speak to his wife about getting her some money..."Darren Williams, #1857" told me I've been selected to receive a free, never-to-be-paid-back, government grant of up to $25,000."You really need the money, right?" "You've always paid your taxes on time right?" OK, I'm supposed to receive my application packet to get the money in 10-15 days.
Wow, he then asks me my bank's name and whether or not the routing number he has for it is correct. (Which they did not.) So, he asks what number is on my check. To which I replied, "Do you need my account number also?" "Mr. Williams" replied, "Of course, we need it now to route the money to your account..." What a dimwit loser!!! I've always heard of these type scams, and wanted to see where this would go, which is why I stayed on the phone.
How cruel to try to take advantage of a one-wage-earner family with 6 kids!!! Listen out there, folks, pay attention and don't get seduced by some smooth talking guy that has basic info about you that anybody can have access to! I didn't, you don't have to either, just think before you give out financial data that could be used to ruin your life!
