Stages of Beauty
Refusal to issue refund

Beauty & Appearance

' Stages of Beauty ' based in Cambridge, MA offered a free trial size of their face cream which I decided to try. I received it just the day before going on a trip. There were no ingredients listed on the product, and being health conscious, I am suspect when a company doesn't divulge the ingredients, and would never use anything unless I knew what the ingredients were, so I threw it out, figuring I only wasted $4.99 for shipping & handling, and that I was done with the matter.

When I returned home from my trip, I was surprised to find a new package from the company with another larger jar of their product which I knew I had not ordered, showing a charge of $74.98 to my charge card! I figured they made a mistake. I called the company & talked with a rep, & asked for a refund, even offering to return the product. She firmly refused to issue a refund after repeated requests, saying they had a cancellation policy!

A cancellation policy??? All I did - or intended to do - was order a 'free trial' sample for $4.99!! When ordering the 'free trial' I did not see the hook about their autoshipping one jar every month if I didn't cancel within 18 days of receiving the sample, and was therefore was totally unaware that they would be sending MORE! If I had seen the 'autoship' clause, I never would have order it in the first place, as I travel so much. I received the sample the day before I left on a trip, and threw it away due to no listing of the ingredients, and expected that to be the end of it.

Aside from the totally unexpected 'autoship' and charge for a product I didn't order, I looked at the ingredients which were printed on the new jar, only to see that the cream had harmful chemicals and petroleum based ingredients in it which have been linked with numerous illnesses, and which I wouldn't use on my skin under any circumstances! So I had made the right decision in being suspect, and throwing the sample away.

As a consumer, it is my opinion that any company that would refuse a refund in light of such circumstances would be lacking in a sense of good business practices and ethics.

I again request a refund for $74.98 from this company and will reserve my conclusion to this matter pending their decision.
