Lacking a space in the garage to park my wife's new Honda Accord I decidedto sell my 1986 Porsche 928s which I had owned for 24 years. Since it had only39,200 miles on it I thought I could get about $10,000 to $12,000 from a private sale. Rather than put up with the hassle of a private sale and the chance of messingup the transfer paper work I decided to sell it to Suncoast Motorsports as I thoughtthey would give an honest appraisal and a fair deal to a 79 year old Sr. The Suncoast Manager did a put down job on the car saying the best he couldoffer was $5500. His comments are shown below in an e-mail reply to me. Although$5500 was less than I had expected I accepted the offer as I trusted his appraisal. Three days later I found the car listed on the web for $20,995. With a glowing description as a one of a kind, just off the Show Room Floor original condition car. The car is also listed on e-bay. After a thorough inspection as a potential buyer the only thing they did was put some tire shine onthe "old dry rotted tires". Mr. Fawber, I have received your e-mail and would like to advise you that after doing a thorough service inspection in our Porsche Service Department and finding the rear hatch not working properly, the air conditioning blowing warm, the tires dry rotted, and the universal boots cracked and rottedand also valve covers leaking, we sent the car to wholesale auction. We felt that after doing theabove mentioned repairs that it would be too costly to retail and still stand behind the car.
