Ripoff Attempting to collect on very old debt

Back in December this collection agency sent me a letter stating that I own on a $350 debt dating back in the mid-1990's. I think around 1995 or 96. This debt was back in CA and I now live in Oregon. I replied back with a letter (not certified, unfortunately) stating the following: "I am not aware of debt owned to this creditor. Therefore, I will need a copy of the verification or judgment to determine the validity of this debt.

Due to factors in the laws for debt collection, I cannot commence payment on a debt that could potentially not be mine or could be past the statute of limitations to be obligated to pay. I hope this is understood out of concern of needing the requested documents to determine what to do."

In January I received validation of the account with zero proof that judgements where passed on the debt to make the statute of limitations not apply. It appears to me that they are basing the fact that they purchased the debt that I'm required to pay it.By the law that the debt was in, the state I live in and even the state that the creditor is using the statute of limitations makes this debt void.

That was the last I heard from them until now when my wife gets a phone call from them. They will be calling back at 5:00 today. My wife is planning to tell them that they will need to contact me by mail.

I have to admit that I'm very concerned. I have extremely good credit which allowed me very recently purchase a bigger house for my family and now based on what I have seen on other situations with Asset Acceptance on this site it looks like I might have a fight coming up and a risk of losing a lot of money that is needed for my family not this collection agency that probably purchased this debt for $3.00.

I find it rather disconcerting that they are calling without making another attempt by mail first, especially after 1.5 years of no activity from them.
