This child has been in foster care on and off since birth, 2 short years ago. The last year he has spent with Erin and David, a foster home. My office ruled out the bio parents very early on and told the foster family they could adopt the baby, even though blood relatives have come forward. We gave the relatives the run around and told them they were not allowed visits or information because we were still working on the family reunification portion of our plan.
Our real plan was to keep the family away from the baby until we could get before a judge to severe parental rights. The family forced their way into the court process. With the GAL's insistence the judge ordered a best interest exam (BIE). Two family members and the foster family went through the BIE. CPS and GAL believed best interest lied with the foster family whom has had the child for one year. The Psychologist not only ranked the persons 1 thru 3,1 being the best choice for placement of the baby and 3 being the last option she also made recommendations.
In this case, not only was the foster parent picked last, it was stated that this family would be a good structured home for a child in crisis but not long term. The child in question has been with this family long term and still remains with this foster family. I do not believe the child is safe with this foster family. The psychologist's observations and discussion with the foster mom were disturbing. I do not understand why the child has not been removed form this home nor why this foster family with obvious problems and issues bordering on child abuse are allowed to continue to foster children. Certification should be revoked, no adoptions should be allowed.
Who will save this child? Who is monitoring these private companies who are approving unsafe families and unstable persons like Erin & David to care for foster children. We need greater checks and balances!
