I was offered a free magazine trial from some miscellaneous ad, I do not recall the name of the magazine company. However, when they asked for my credit card info (after selecting the magazines and giving my name, etc.), I backed out without providing my card info and canceled the free offer.
This was several weeks ago. At 3 A.M. This morning, my account was charged $74.95. I logged online to my bank this afternoon to balance my book and discovered the charge, which was verified by my bank over the phone as NSS Magazines.
I called the number the bank gave me showing up on this debit and could only reach a "nonhuman" - who wanted me to punch in my credit card number so they could "verify the account" before proceeding. I hung up the phone, then did a search on the internet which brought me to your site. I thought it funny that the search brought up your web site, and no mention of a separate NSS Magazines web site. And I was really relieved that this wasn't some huge error on my part in balancing my checkbook.
Seventy-five bucks may not be a lot to some people, but it's the difference between groceries and no groceries in my situation. And the sneaky way it transpired - at 3 A.M. - just makes me angrier and more distrustful of being on the internet. They got this information somehow, but not from me. The only other people that are ever in my home can't even read yet and I'm pretty sure they weren't up surfing the web at 3 A.M.
