On the morning of December 16, about 9am I was getting to feed my infant, Patrick. The phone rings, I answer and the telemarketing-sounding woman asks for Patrick. I chuckle thinking, "Ahh, it begins this early in life..." I say, "I'm sorry miss, he's not able to talk, can I take a message." She gets a louder tone of voice and explains that she needs to speak with him immediately and that I give the phone to him now. I said, "I can't miss. He seriously cannot talk, what is this in regards to?" She says that my little infant bounced a check and owes her $1,600. Oh yeah? Hmmm. I said, "This is impossible. Patrick is 5 months old. He doesn't even hold his head up." I find humor in this, ok. She didn't apparently because she yells at me that this is not funny, that I need to pay this immediately. Asks for my bank numbers, etc. Whoa! I asked what company and who she was.
I got "Certegy" and "Lynn" out of whatever she mumbled and lectured me on. Finally I told Lynn that she has the wrong person, this is an infant... She laughed and hung up on me. As if I'm lying or something! After investigating I found the website, www.Certegy.com, found out about this Godsend of a website called "usacomplaints.com.Com" (thank you!) and decided to call back. Now I'm scared that someone may have guessed Patrick's ssn or something. I fear that! After an hour and 12 employees of explaining this bizarre early morning phone call I came across a young girl who told me that I need to verify my address and ssn. Yeah, right I told her. I don't think so. She interrupted me saying that "this is the way it is, you don't like it deal with the consequences". Then proceeded to hang up on me when I went further into my questioning.
Am I mistaken, or is this country seeing the lowest job rate ever? People like THIS are employed? WOW! I live off of $188 a week in unemployment that I had to FIGHT for, single mom... I'm dealing with this? This is sick.
I'd like to find a way to make sure my son is not the victim of Identity Theft, but I'm not up for being yelled at, hung up on or waiting on the phone for an hour. It's pretty sad when I feel scared to call a freaking company! Isn't this America?
