A James Keating from US Roofing Systems LLC was knocking on doors in my street after a storm last year. I let him get up on my roof and he told me there was storm damage. I took a look and agreed with him. We called my insurance company to make an appointment for the adjuster to come out.
Mr. Keating was very happy that I had my Insurance with the Hartford. They pay out well apparently.
I signed a contract and asked when he would give me an estimate. Mr. Keating told me we should wait to see if the adjuster approves the claim or not. Which made sense.
Mr. Keating was insistent on being present when the adjuster showed. The adjuster found damage and made his report. Before I had even been assigned an amount I had Mr. Keating hovering around for me to sign off on a work order and sign over the insurance check to him.
I asked Mr. Keating for an estimate and he flat out refused to provide me with one. And he got very angry about it saying that the contract states that US Roofing Systems LLC doesn't have to provide me with an estimate.
Later that same day, he called to say that a work crew would be out to replace the roof in a few days. I called back to say that I hadn't even decided on the color for the shingles and that without an estimate, no work would be done.
I got a couple of estimates done from other roofers, as I couldn't understand why Mr. Keating could not provide me with an estimate. The estimates I got came in about $1,500 less than the amount my Insurance company had assigned to my claim. Now I understood. While Mr. Keating could not know exactly how much my Insurance company would give me, he did know they would pay over the odds to replace my roof. And US Roofing Systmems LLC wanted every penny of it.
After further phone calls with Mr. Keating, he told me that he would place a lien on my house if I didn't let US Roofing Systems LLC replace my roof. I pointed out that work had to be done for a lien to be placed. Then Mr. Keating told me that he would refer my case to the legal department at US Roofing Systems LLC.
With the usual parlor tricks not working, I was passed off to Rob Myers, the CFO at US Roofing Systems LLC. Mr. Myers told me that the contract states that he does not have to provide me with a written estimate. Presumably Mr. Myers believes that its complete abscence from the contract means he doesn't have to provide one. The contract states that US Roofing Systems LLC is entitled to all the Insurance monies. Every penny of the original outlay and all supplemental insurance. I could not go along with this, a position I believe most Insurance companies would take. And this is presumably also further basis for Mr. Myers belief that no estimate needs to be provided.
Mr. Myers emailed me a copy of the contract as I had misplaced mine via his secretary. I did find my copy later on.
Mr. Myers was adamant that I was in breach of contract. And that if I didn't let US Roofing Systems LLC replace my roof he would sue me in Superior Court. Mr. Myers was very rude in telling me how he would depose my Insurance company and I before taking me to court.
Mr. Myers was in most likely setting me up to get money out of me to cancel the contract. Mr. Myers told me that he would settle for $2,000 and that I should bring him the money immediately. When I told him that I couldn't do it that day, he told me to bring it the next day.
Then Mr. Myers told me that he would give me a bargain. For a $1,000 he would let me out of the contract. That he would even cash my Insurance check and give me back the difference.
It was at this junction that I informed Mr. Myers that my insurance company was asking for a written estimate. Mr. Myers told me that he would not provide them with one.
I cancelled the contract. The Insurance companies are not beholden to any roofing contract.
Mr. Myers told me that I would be hearing from his attorney.
Just before Thanksgiving (four months later), I got a letter sent via Certified Mail from Mr. Myers demanding I let them replace my roof. That if I didn't let them do the work, then US Roofing Systems LLC would sue me. But, if I gave US Roofing Systems LLC $500, they would drop matters.
Mr. Myers called this a 'letter of default.' Mr. Myers had clearly copy and pasted some of this from actual collection letters.
In a phone call I told Mr. Myers to sue me, if he dares. And have been filing complaints against Rob Myers and US Roofing Systems LLC ever since.
I also spoke to a Russ Ultes, the owner, who let it be known he was aware of my situation, but was quite content to let Mr. Myers threaten and bully me into either giving US Roofing Systems LLC money or let them replace my roof.
US Roofing Systems LLC in its contract and in person, state that they work for all insurance monies, when it should be that they get paid from the Insurance monies. But when they refused to provide a written estimate, and yet wanted a copy of my claim summary, US Roofing Systems LLC were trying to commit fraud.
I have documentation of Rob Myers and US Roofing Systems LLC refusing to provide me with a written estimate and asking me for a copy of my claim summary.
Everyone I have talked to says this is them trying to commit fraud. The irony is that I could file charges and take them to court had they conned me out of some money. As they didn't, no one is that interested.
Bottom line, US Roofing Systems LLC are rotten to the core. And I hear that their work is second rate.
But what can you expect from crooks, cheats and bullies?
