In the summer of 2007 a door to door salesman came by my home selling alarm systems through Platinum Protection. After finding out I was a single woman and home owner he proceeded to use "scare tactics" to convince me how badly I needed this alarm system. I agreed to sign up and he proceeded to tell me that the contract I was getting ready to sign was a 3 year contract. I told him I wasn't able to do that, because I was moving in one year to a different city and couldn't honor that contract. He said he needed to get approval from his manager and after placing a phone call to his office, said that it was okay, and he would re-write the contract for 1 year of service.
He advised me to call the corporate office when I was moving to discontinue my services. I then signed the contract and every month for the next year I promptly made my monthly payments for my alarm service. When the summer of 2008 arrived and I was moving, I called the corporate office to cancel and they informed me I still had 2 more years on my contract that I was obligated to uphold. I explained the situation, they said that was not the case, and when I asked to speak to the salesman that I worked with, he was no longer employed.
After speaking with customer service on multiple occasions, I believed the issue had been resolved. Until, last month, when I started receiving harassing phone calls from a collection agency stating I still owed Platimun Protection almost $1000.00 for a broken contract. I said I thought the issue had been resolved, as it was almost 3 years ago and they said no and I needed to pay for broken contract. I believe Platinum Protection misled me into a false contract and they are now sending a collection agency (who's employees are extremely rude and harassing) after me to collect. I have never had an issue like this with a company before and fully intend on continuing my dispute over this false contract.
