Dryer isn't heating, but I'm sure hot under the collar. They Don't List A City, Just States They Service. District of Columbia, MARYLAND, VIRGINIA

I have a Whirlpool dryer that stopped heating. The dryer would spin, but wouldn't heat or dry the clothes.

I contacted A-1 Repairs, they came out. The tech was there about 30 minutes, said it was a bad electric cord, showed me that the plug had burn marks on it, and he'd have to buy a new one and come back.

He came back the next day, installed the cord, took him about 15 minutes, and the dryer heated up. I opened the door of it to confirm that, then pushed the power button and it wouldn't come back on AT ALL.

He said, it has to be the outlet then, needs to be replaced, isn't getting the full 240v continuously. I said okay, how much do I owe you.

I had a coupon for a FREE service call and another one for $30 off any repairs. He tells me it's going to be "something like, $160,170, no $189" and I said with the coupons and he said yes.

I said no way I'm paying $189 for a plug and less than 45 minutes of your time. Let me see your price listing. He didn't have one, he started to argue so I called the company.

They could not give me a price list, they said what he'd told me already, they don't charge for "time" just parts and labor. I said well I have a FREE service call, the part was less than $55, where's the $130 cost coming in. He said, what was the estimate for and that's when I told him I never got an estimate and again I asked for something that gave their rates.

Finally the tech said, he'd take off the $30 and the cost of the service call, $59.95, and I it all came to $116.00. Fine, but my dryer STILL doesn't work, now I have to have an electrician in and I'm already out $116.00.

I think they're a ripoff. Why didn't they check out the outlet FIRST before replacing the cord and then why don't they have some kind of price listing, or set prices for repairs? It was clear that the tech was just making up the cost on the spot.

I tried to talk to the company about this, they were rude, didn't care, and could not explain ANY of their pricing or how they figure their bills or why I wasn't given an estimate PRIOR to them doing the work.

They shouldn't be called A-1, they should be called Screw You-1.
