Firestone rip off reported to bbb

Took my suv to firestone in newton nj to see if i can apply for a firestone credit card being that i had limited cash. I told them that my car had a hard time starting and that it putts, but was also able to start it later that evening and got it to work which made me able to drive it to the shop.

I made a noon apt on aug 22rd. Finally heard back from them around 6 pm. They did a full diagnostic test on the car, plus walk around inspection. There were no codes that showed up stating anything was wrong with car, and no engine light was on. They proceeded to tell me that i needed a tune up and that my spark plugs could be misfiring and causing the problem.

They also told me that i might need a new fuel filter, spark plug wires, a fuel system cleaning, and the mass airflow sensor needed to be cleaned and relearn idle. They replaced fuel filter and i got a coolant system service. Total was 1,158, 27 701.38 was labor. I have a ford explorer sport, and according to my paperwork, they suggest a tune up at 100,000 miles, my car only has 83,000 on it i also needed a new cv boot which was my fault from running over a stick.

On thursday august 23 i called firestone around 7 am to tell them to wait on doing anything to my car because i wanted to make sure that i was able to use the 900.00 credit right away, becaue i did nto have that much cash. I call them back around 9 am and tell them to go ahead with the work. They called me at noon on the 23rd an tell me the car is ready. The labor charge is 106.00 per hour.

If they started work on my car at 9 am and finished at noon how did they come up with 701.00 in labor? When i questioned them about this the mechanic told me they started the work on the car the night before which i didn't autorize because i didnt know if i'd have the full 900.00 credit to use on my car. Then he was telling me the more advanced the mechanic the less the consumer pays hhahaha. What a line of crap.

With all that said. When it was time to pay for my car i get. Oh by the way you have a leak in your exhaust that needs to be repaired in the near future. At that point i flipped out. Why would they inspect my car the day before and have me pay for an inpection if they never told me about the exhaust problem the day before? I would have had the exhaust problem fixed before fixing anything else, considering the other work was not that important and could have waited. Firestone did refund the walk around inspection of 19.99, and the manager agreed to repair the muffler at 50 percent off parts and labor but only from the muffler to the tailpipe but could not tell me where the leak was, or if there were other leaks.

I feel like i was totally scammed and pressured to have work done on my car that didnt really need to be worked on. Oh and btw. Friday morning when i went to start my car the same problem happened. Wouldnt stay started and stalled, but then got it going later in the day, and today it started fine. Needless to say my car is still the same and nothing was fixed on it after spending all of that money. I need an honest mechanic, and i'm done being ripped off by mechanics.
