Mechanical Breakdown Protection
Each of contract, dishonest, they screw consumers

I purchased MBPI Extra Premier Plus Vehicle Protection for 2003 Ford Taurus on Aug. 17. I bought car from Phoenix Auto Brokers and paid $1500 for warranty. The contract was for 5 years/85,000 miles. Vehicle mileage at time of purchase—44,494.
I made one claim—paid $100 deductible, they paid $175.

On March 11, I decided to buy a new car and trade in Taurus. I was told that when I cancelled contract I would be entitled to refund based on odometer reading at time of sale (57,195) since Id only used approximately 1/4th of coverage. The contract states that there is a $50 cancellation fee, any claims paid are deducted, and the difference is sent to lienholder, or in my case—since car was paid off, Me!

I contacted MBP to request cancellation form, made copy of contract, completed odometer disclosure form, attempted to contact Phoenix Auto Brokers—who went out of business—and faxed information to MBP. A few days later I received check in mail for $76.50.

When I called them I was told it was a dealer participation contract (nowhere on contract does it say that) and they werent responsible for difference (I should've received $923 based on oddometer reading at time of sale) the dealer was.

I consulted an attorney who told me to write letter requesting amount owed and informing them of my intent to sue for that amount plus attorney fees and court costs. Now I wait. Im told this type of thing happens all the time—most people take what they can get and move on. I cannot. I work hard for my money, purchase warranties for my protection to offset the possibility of expensive repairs, and peace of mind, and $1500 is not chump change to me.

Consumers are held to contracts everyday—we are expected to keep our word, our promise, etc. Why aren't the big businesses held to same standards? Why are they always permitted to screw us? To find some legal loophole or make some excuse to avoid upholding their end of the deal? WHy do we let them?

Do NOT be fooled into thinking that you EVER get what youre paying for or expect those you do business with to act with honesty and integrity. MBP, Inc. Cannot be trusted and has NO intention of honoring any contract you enter into with them! They could do the RIGHT thing, but choose instead to pass the buck and blame the dealer. It makes no difference that the contract is WITH THEM, it's their agreement, and therefore their responsibility to uphold!!!
Beware of extended warranties and mbp, inc!!
