On May 27 I bought a 2008 BMW 335i from RC Hill Mitsubishi in Deland. The salesman, John Scire, told me I had a 3 month, 3, 000 mile "worry free warranty" when I purchased the car. When I asked him what the warranty covered He said "The 3 month warranty covers everything except routine maintenance."
On July 1 the car overheated. I called RC Hill Mitsubishi and spoke with the service dept and after several minutes on hold I was told that I did not have any warranty, but if I could get the car to them they would "see what they could do" to help me with the repairs. I called a tow truck and after many hours we arrived at RC Hill Mitsubishi in Deland. The salesman John Scire was outside and approached me as I got out of the tow truck and asked me what happened. I told him the car overheated and they are telling me I don't have a warranty. He ask how many miles I had put on the car. I told him about 1300. He said "Don't worry about it, it is covered." I said "The service dept says I'm not covered." He said "Every car that leaves this lot is covered by the 90 day warranty that covers everything." He walked into the service dept and I followed. The person at the desk informed him the car was not covered. We walked over to the sales dept and the sales manager informed both of us that "foreign cars are not covered by the 3 month warranty."
I left the car so they could find the problem. When I returned I was told the car needed a water pump and a thermostat at a cost of over $1400. I went over to talk to John Scire the salesman, I asked him if his company was going to honor the warranty he told me I had. He said "I never told you that you had the 3 month warranty." Now I can understand being mistaken. Not knowing that foreign cars are not covered by the warranty that is on "every car that leaves this lot." But to change your tune and deny ever saying there was a warranty is well, I'll let you be the Judge.
I returned the next morning and picked up the car. Later that afternoon I did a little searching online and although the listing for the car I purchased showing that it came with the " COMPLEMENTARY worry free 3 month warranty" has been removed from their website, Google still has a cache copy. I printed the page out and took it down to the dealership and gave it to the sales manager Tom. His response was that the "worry free 3 month warranty" does not cover a water pump and thermostat. When I ask him what was covered he said "the drive train only." I guess RC Hills' "COMPLIMENTARY Worry Free 3 MONTH WARRANTY" is a complete rip off and scam.
My car is now at a local certified BMW mechanic being repaired. Estimated cost $800.
