Uses internet scam to rip off customers

Wachovia Bank is involved in a massive scam that rips off unsuspecting customers for thousands of dollars. After this scam happened to me, I researched it on the internet and found that I was not the only person that this happened to. So here it goes, this is how it works. I received a letter in the mail that said I had won an internet sweepstakes with a grand prize of $68,000. This letter also included a check, written out to me for $3,120. Dollars. I took the check to a wachovia bank and deposited it with them, and the very next day I checked my account online, and sure enough the money was available to me.

At this point, I began spending the money, as anyone would do. After I had spent the money, Wachovia, without notifiying me at all, Took the money back out of my account. I called the bank and they THEN told me that the check was counterfeit and I was involved in a scam. They then began telling me that I was responsible for paying the money back to them, and they would close my account if I couldn't do so. I asked them why they didn't say anything when I deposited the check, and why they put the money in there for me to spend, only to then pull it out of my account and force me to pay the money, or get my account closed. They then began telling me some bullshit story about how they deposit checks on "GOOD FAITH" and make the money available before the check actually clears. Not to mention, the fraud department showed no concern for my well being as a customer who has been with the bank for over 10 years.

So If you haven't already figured this scam out, here is how it works for wachovia.

They allow these fake checks to be deposited into peoples account, they then wait until the person has spent the money, then immediately take the amount of the check back out of the person's account. At this point they tell you about the scam, and you have no option to pay them the money, or they shut your account down for good. So in the end they get the amount of the check back from the person, and in my case that amount was $3,120.00 dollars. And they are getting this amount from thousands, if not tens of thousands of unsuspecting customers.
